Designing and implementing maker curriculum for promoting 7th graders’ maker competence

“Competence” is a very important concept in education and has been valued by several countries international organizations recent years, sparking wave of curriculum reforms worldwide. The STEAM considered feasible way to equip all students with problem-solving skills various real-world situations complicated challenges, as well nurturing them 21st century competencies. Moreover, maker movement that focuses more on hands-on creation, design, innovation an innovative redefine the learning process through which students’ competence can be nurtured. Based this trend, new national guidelines were established Taiwan’s Ministry Education 2014. Particularly for technology domain junior high school level (grade 7–9), “Life Technology” “Information become requirements, where interdisciplinary competence-based needs developed. reform wave, we emphasize implementation targeted increase 7th-grade competence. A post-test quasi-experimental design was employed gather data, corresponding statistics applied quantitative comparison. total 230 7th-graders from eight classes schools participated study. Students experimental group received intervention, designed implemented support teacher professional development community briefly presented paper. findings revealed who intervention possessed significantly superior marker compared those regular courses. these findings, (i.e., knowledge, attitude, skills), fully within classrooms, favorable helping adolescents survive ever-changing fast-paced era. Consequently, educators teachers, must endeavor construct environment full spirit integration.
